ORNL update

I have heard good reports from Oak Ridge National Lab-the director told our coordinator that we had a great group of kids! Go TGA!!! Seniors will have their second visit tomorrow-Juniors had their first (and worst) visit yesterday-they had to go through the necessary safety and information overview for being at a national laboratory.

Cal Tech called us-one of our graduates attends there-and they have asked to come and visit TGA-they have not recruited in TN for many years-and are coming because of TGA (and will stop at 2 schools in the Nashville area on the way back)...so word about TGA is definitely getting out!!!

We have had no more illness outbreaks at TGA-good news there...

In other news-the school newspaper has had its first meeting and hopes to have a paper out the end of September. Newspaper Staff:

Senior Co-Editors: Elizabeth Ashby and Ashley Coke

--Arts: Marissa Mitchell
--Editorial: Fadi Saleh and Matthew Taylor
--Student Life: Bethany Vanhooser
--Calendar and Alumni Corner: Elizabeth Ashby

--Faculty Sponsor: Dr. Patricia Brake Rutenberg

Mr. Robinson has started a philosophy club-he has 14 students signed up for the club which will meet twice a month at lunch time.

Mr. Adkinson has challenged our TGA students to sign up to run in "Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure" The 5K run raises money to help fight breast cancer. To encourage participation, Mr. A has promised, that if 12 students participate, he will run wearing all pink (breast cancer awareness color) and a tiara. He said if 24 participated, he'd wear all pink, the tiara, and run the race backwards. Encourage your son/daughter to participate. They do not have to run-they can walk (which will be my plan!)

Much fun was had a Tremont-I will try to select a few pictures from those the students have put on facebook to post here on the blog within the next day or so.

Just a reminder-senior parents, you will need to have your student back Monday late afternoon as they have classes at UT Tuesday. Junior parents, your students will be returning Tuesday (at the normal time)...
