Mandarin Video Clips-part I

Here is a video clip of the students in Mandarin I preparing for the moon festival. I will add more as the week progresses, but they take quite a bit of time to process...enjoy!

Here is what is happening this week in classes at TGA:

This week in Government, student teams will be debating foreign policy, social policy, and economic policy on Monday. They will review for the final exam on Thursday, and they will take their final exam on Friday.

Mandarin I: We will Review the question and answer about occupations and also start on the unit "Date and Time".

Mandarin II: This week the students will recite the poem "Thoughts on a Still Night" from memory. We will also review the words and grammar for "directions" and have a quiz on Thursday

Precalculus:Tuesday, we will do a review of change of bases, examine some logarithmic functions,
Wednesday we will go over the section of logistic growth and do some exercises.
Thursday, I will have a review day to go over the exam, the midterm exam will be this Friday.
I will also have a special evening tutoring session with those who need it to study for the midterm in pre-cal.

This week in Calculus I we will have our second exam on Tuesday. After this exam we will begin to look at some classic applications of the derivative including related rates and min/max problems. We will also begin another Maple Project that will include modeling a roller coaster!

This week in Calculus II we will continue our look at classic applications of the integral including calculating volumes of revolution and arc length. This material will be brought to life using the power of Maple software to visualize these mathematical concepts. Below is an example Maple plot, similar to those the students are currently creating.

Other happenings at TGA: Last night (Monday) students attended a college fair at Oak Ridge High School (thanks ORHS!)...Many of colleges from the southeast were represented-from small private schools to the many of the state universities of the SEC. There was a little something for everyone there. I encourage students to follow up with recruiters for the schools they are interested in this week (if they received their contact info) This morning, a representative from Duke visited TGA and met with our students. More visits are scheduled in the upcoming weeks.

Juniors have started the Bone module. Mr. Jon Bethard visited Saturday and provided a great bone ID lab for the juniors-looking for height, age, ethnicity, naming different bones, forensic significance-and Mr. Bethard tried to trick them with a fox bone! Cathy Thorn said, "it was a Saturday well spent. I'm now thinking about studying anthropology!" Fadi Saleh said, "Who actually thought I could hold a human skull. He (Mr. Bethard) was really insightful-a bone expert" Marissa Mitchell said, "It was very nifty being able to see the bone I dislocated aka the patella"
